Harrington's instrumentation as a salvage procedure for pseudarthroses in spine fusions for scoliosis.
نویسنده
چکیده
From November 1963 to March 1966 twelve previously grafted spines were explored because of deterioration of the curve in the grafted area. The first spinal fusions had been done to stabilise the spine after correction of scoliosis. The techniques used were the Hibbs and the Moe methods of fusion. Pseudarthrosis was suspected whenever a curve did not become stable within six months of the original fusion operation. All spines in which deterioration occurred were re-explored. Pseudarthroses were discovered in all but three of these.

Osteoporosis and the Management of Spinal Degenerative Disease (II)
Osteoporosis has become a major medical problem as the aged population of the world rapidly grows. Osteoporosis predisposes patients to fracture, progressive spinal deformities, and stenosis, and is subject to be a major concern before performing spine surgery, especially with bone fusions and instrumentation. Osteoporosis has often been considered a contraindication for spinal surgery, while i...

UNLABELLED STUDY DESIGN A retrospective analysis of primary cases of adult idiopathic scoliosis treated with long instrumented fusions from the thoracic spine proximally to segments that range from T11 to L4 distally. OBJECTIVE To analyze whether patients requiring revision surgery had lower postoperative SRS-24 scores; age >or=40 years correlated with higher rates of revision surgery; disc d...
متن کاملStability of the scoliotic spine after fusion.
The factors during and after operation which influence the development of a solid and stable posterior spinal fusion have been evaluated in 406 patients with scoliosis. The patients were managed in three different ways and all pseudarthroses were accurately detected by exploring the spines six months after the attempted fusion. The incidence of pseudarthroses was significantly lowered from 25 p...

Background: Congenital scoliosis is a developmental disorder defined as a lateral curvature of the spine. Its progressive trend and complications, such as cosmetic problems, pain and pulmonary symptoms, have put scoliosis as an important skeletal deformity that should be corrected. One of the currently accepted methods of treatment is posterior spinal fusion (PSF) that may be performed with or ...
